Padang Utilizes Fisheries Sector to Combat Inflation

PADANG, kiprahkita.net - The Padang City Government, through its Department of Fisheries and Food, is continuing efforts to control regional inflation. Several measures have been implemented to curb inflation in the capital of West Sumatra Province.

Alfiadi, Head of the Padang City Fisheries and Food Department, explained that several actions have been taken to reduce inflation.

These include the implementation of the Government Food Reserves Strengthening (CPPD), with Padang City's reserves recorded at 111.98 tons as of October 2024.

"In addition, we have initiated the Cheap Food Movement (GPM) to mitigate the volatility of food commodity prices, and we conduct weekly inspections to monitor food availability and supply at local markets," he stated on Tuesday (October 22, 2024).

He added that the department has also collaborated with food-producing regions to ensure a smooth supply chain. Furthermore, assistance was provided to 45,908 Beneficiary Families (KPM) between October 4 and 11.

"We have also conducted training for local food entrepreneurs to promote the development of processed local food products, aiming to increase public interest in consuming locally processed foods," he elaborated.

He emphasized that the department is committed to implementing various future measures to control inflation in Padang.

These include continuous market inspections, revitalizing the Cheap Food Movement (GPM), and strengthening partnerships with food-producing areas.

"In addition, we are distributing government rice reserves to Beneficiary Families (KPM) and shortening the food distribution chain to maintain price stability," he explained.

He also urged the public to utilize home gardens for family food supplies and to reduce food waste. "We hope that these steps will help reduce inflation in Padang," he concluded. (kominfopdg)
