PARIAMAN, kiprahkita.com - The Pariaman Football Association (Persikopa) once again finished as runner-up in the 2024 Soeratin U-17 Cup after losing the final match to PS Banten with a final score of 3-1 at Mandala Krida Stadium, Yogyakarta, on Friday (December 20, 2024).
Despite the loss, the Governor of West Sumatra (Sumbar), Mahyeldi Ansharullah, praised the efforts of the Persikopa players.
"Although they failed to lift the trophy, Persikopa's players showcased excellent performances with a classy rhythm of play. I watched the match earlier on PSSI's YouTube channel," Mahyeldi stated.
According to Mahyeldi, Persikopa was simply unlucky in the final. Technically, and in terms of fighting spirit, both teams were evenly matched, as evidenced by the constant exchange of attacks until the referee blew the final whistle.
"However, several attacking sequences from Persikopa failed to penetrate the opponent's defense, resulting in a 3-1 victory for PS Banten. From a technical standpoint, I believe both teams were balanced," he added.
Mahyeldi expressed confidence that not only he but also the people of West Sumatra, both at home and abroad, would appreciate Persikopa's performance and achievements.
Amid various challenges, Persikopa managed to excel. Notably, in 2023, Persikopa also finished as runner-up in the same competition after losing to PS Jakarta in the final at 10 November Stadium, Surabaya.
"We are proud to have Persikopa. It is an extraordinary achievement to reach the final of the Soeratin U-17 Cup for two consecutive years. Persikopa remains the best," Mahyeldi concluded. (*/adpsb)
